Taipei- Day 3 (九份老街, 刘山东)
Today we are going to visit Jiufen Old Street 九份老街. It is said that this place was the inspiration for the town in Spirited Away. However, Miyazaki has always denied this. So why do people keep thinking that this is “real life Spirited Away”? I’m guessing the resemblance lies in the red lanterns and the vast quantities of food. Jiufen is about 1.5hours away from … Continue reading Taipei- Day 3 (九份老街, 刘山东)
Hanzo Ramen (2)
In our last post about Tokyo Central, we talked about how there are freshly made food at this market. Well, today I am going to try it! There were a couple of options: freshly made sushi, a buffet section (with curry, chicken wings, tempura, etc.), pastries, or ramen. You already know what I opted for. I woke up in the morning unsure of what I … Continue reading Hanzo Ramen (2)
Taipei- Day 2 (台北101,象山)
For our second day of Taipei, we are going to head to the tallest building in Taiwan: Taipei 101. After visiting the observatory deck, we will have a nice lunch at Din Tai Fung, followed by a hike up Elephant Mountain to see Taipei 101 from a distance. → TAIPEI 101 台北101观光台 To get to Taipei 101, we walked from our hotel to the Taipei Main … Continue reading Taipei- Day 2 (台北101,象山)
Taipei- Day 1 (台北车站,二二八和平公园,中正纪念堂,台湾博物馆,西门町)
Today was our first full day in Taipei. We landed the previous night around 5:30pm but after getting our sim card and passing through customs, we arrived at our hotel close to 8pm. I used booking.com to find a hotel that was in close proximity to Taipei Main Station, which is the central hub of transportation, but yet close to our attractions and other shops … Continue reading Taipei- Day 1 (台北车站,二二八和平公园,中正纪念堂,台湾博物馆,西门町)
Tokyo Central (1)
I rarely cook, but that’s because all the recipes I was taught were made using Asian vegetables and seasonings. Although there is an Asian aisle in grocery stores such as Vons or Ralphs, they do not have the ingredients we typically use. I occasionally frequent Hmart for their Asian vegetable: Yu Choy or A-choy. I know that 99 Ranch (or Ranch 99) also serves these … Continue reading Tokyo Central (1)
terima kasih, bali
I cannot express my gratitude enough to the people of Bali- whether it was the volunteer coordinators, my new friends, the accommodation hosts, or the students that welcomed us to their school with their bright smiles. They were all an integral part of my incredible experience. Back in May of 2017, I felt the urge to volunteer abroad. I messaged a couple of friends, many … Continue reading terima kasih, bali
to: bali
‘travel to a foreign country with someone you just met’ If you had told me that I would do that, I would have said to you “yeah right, stop joking”. But in 2017, that was exactly what I did. I don’t consider myself a very adventurous person because I’m always thinking of the consequences. But this time, I went #YOLO and took off to Bali, … Continue reading to: bali
Taipei’s MRT using EasyCard
We booked our hotel in close proximity (5 minute walk) to Taipei Main Station. It is known as the central hub, as it connects to almost anywhere you want to go. You can take MRT (metro), TRA (train), and HSR (high speed rail) at this station. You can even shop in the underground mall (which opens toward the late afternoon). It is seriously a maze … Continue reading Taipei’s MRT using EasyCard
I went for Hello Kitty
Taipei, here we come. EVA Air had featured some of its planes flying out of LAX with Hello Kitty livery in the past but it was back in 2013 when I was poor and had no money. In 2018, they decided to offer regular service from LAX-TPE three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. So I decided to hop to it and book … Continue reading I went for Hello Kitty
